The JTH Artist Residency

Creosote Suite As A Studio

At the heart of our spaces is the intention to reflect, reset, & create. Our passion to share the importance of this cycle with you all has had a beautiful impact in our lives—and our hope is that you find yourself connecting to this cycle during a JTH stay and beyond. The artist residencies we have completed at The JTH focus on the “create” phase of the cycle, and it’s an honor to see what emerges from these intentional moments of creating.

Earlier this summer we completed part one of the summer artist residency with artists Papou Koliopoulos, Aleksandra Zee & Antrom Alexander. Watching them transform the inn into a studio—walls humming with creation was incredibly inspiring.

Papou Koliopoulos

Papou is a painter who does what most painters don’t: paint with her hands. She often chooses to forgo paint brushes for the all consuming experience of creating art. Her studio is a sanctuary where she removes all expectations that the world places on her and she lets herself be an artist with something to say, filling it with frankincense and music to be captivated by her canvas and oil-based paints. Papou also creates her own playlists, which you can listen to here. You can also keep up with what she’s currently up to on Instagram.

Aleksandra Zee

Aleksandra is an artist, woodworker, and designer based in Joshua Tree, CA. She draws inspiration from the beauty of the high desert; inspired by its rich colors, boundless expanse and textures. Her portfolio features room filling installations and intricate wall-hangings with a focus on and fascination with light. You can find her at her website here or on Instagram.

Antrom Alexander

Antrom is a musician, composer and producer based out of Joshua Tree, CA. He’s well versed in multiple instruments and writes and produces his own music—you may recognize him as a part of Desert Friends Band (and a previous curator of our New Moon Playlist!). He finds passion in a broad range of sonic spectrums and loves to compose multiple genres ranging from atmospheric guitar layered pieces, psychedelic, bombastic and hypnotic grooves. You can find him at his website here or on Instagram.

We believe that by creating space for artists to engage meaningfully with the natural world, we can inspire work that helps others reconnect with nature in their own ways. We’re incredibly energized by hosting these artist residencies and are so excited to see what the future holds for artists here at the inn.

Stay tuned for a recap of last week’s residency, where the full inn was taken over by artists creating work with the focus of challenging our society’s detachment from the natural world, and in the meantime we hope you come stay for your very own creative reset.
