Description
*Sold Out* Saturday will emphasize the different building techniques and have a small portion on finishes, and Sunday we will spend more of the day on different finishes such as earthen plaster, desert masonry, and stucco. Taking part in both days will allow for a more in depth experience.
In addition to covering the basics of each technique, we will also work on a shared project, building a super adobe bench and planter that will live on at the inn!
Each Workshop Includes:
- 4 hours of hands on learning with Bryce Ehrecke of Cré Natural Building
- Digital workbook with everything we’ll be learning
- Small group setting
- Access to the common areas of JTH Tucson during the workshop (including a shared bathroom)
- Prickly Pear iced tea & fruit to snack on
What to Bring:
- Water bottle (we have water and ice in the main kitchen for refills) & any additional snacks you want to bring
- Hat & sunscreen (though we’ll be mostly working in the shade we will be gathering sand as well)
- Comfortable shoes & clothes you’re ok with getting dirty
Saturday, August 23rd: Building Techniques

- In-depth exploration of adobe construction methods
- Hands-on experience with cob mixing and application
- Introduction to hyper/super adobe techniques
- Fundamentals of rammed earth construction
- Basics of desert masonry applications
- Brief introduction to finishing techniques
Sunday, August 24th: Finishing Techniques

- Comprehensive exploration of earthen plaster varieties and application
- Detailed instruction on desert masonry techniques
- Stucco application methods for earth buildings
- Surface treatments and natural waterproofing options
- Decorative techniques for beautiful, natural finishes
