Prickly Pear Margarita Recipe (A Summer Favorite)

Prickly Pear Margarita

Here in the desert we always look forward to summer for prickly pear season. One of our favorite things to make with the fruit (tunas) is a fresh prickly pear margarita. We make it with fresh juice, but this can also be done with prickly pear syrup (reduce to 0.5 oz)! It’s sooo delicious, and full of antioxidants. Happy summer everyone 🌞🍹🌵

2 oz Tequila
1 oz Triple sec or Cointreau
1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
1 oz Fresh Prickly Pear Juice
Salt to rim glass

🌵There are a few methods to remove the cactus spines and glochids:

🔥 You can burn them off: hold a lighter to the skin of the tuna (fruit) or over the flame of a gas stove and it will burn off

🔪 You can peel off the entire skin

💦 Or you can rinse with high pressure water and shake to remove spines, blend with a little water, and strain twice using a nut milk bag for the final strain as seen here (this is our favorite method that we’ve been doing for years – it’s easy and also removes the skin and seeds)
