Each image offers a fresh perspective on the landscape, sunsets, and quiet moments, reminding us of the things that make our day-to-day lives so special. They not only capture the desert’s essence…
It’s been five years since we opened our doors at JTH Tucson! Before JTH Tucson was a thought, we started a home renovation in Joshua Tree, CA which is why we are now called ‘The Joshua Tree House’. We’ll never forget how exciting it was to design and renovate that space ourselves and sharing it with…
We are so lucky to live in and host our guests in two locations with incredible creative communities: Joshua Tree, California and Tucson, Arizona. During a stay in either location, you’ll find that our spaces are filled with special pieces by artists, makers, and small shops we admire. Both our inn in Tucson and our…
After a stay at one of our spaces we’re always flattered to get questions about the design from our guests. Finding design inspiration is one of our favorite aspects of travel, so it means a lot that many of you have found that sort of inspiration during a stay with us. One of the most…
When designing and styling our spaces, we spend countless hours sourcing pieces that are not only beautiful, but also functional. The past few months have been an amazing whirlwind between releasing our new book ‘At Home in Joshua Tree‘, and closing on our dream property in Tucson, Arizona. If you know us well, you’ve likely heard us talking about our dream of opening up an inn next to a national park one day. Rich obsessively…
Back in May, we took an inspiration trip to Morocco. I got a sinus infection during the trip, and then life took over when we got back—so we didn’t really get a chance to look through our photos until now! Looking back, there are so many inspiring Moroccan design details, particularly from the lodges and…
An original 1905 church in the Mission district of San Francisco is now a place to put down your phone or laptop for a while (only if you want to), maybe write (with pen and paper), read (from a physical book), rest (without guilt), and physically push yourself to strength (and tears). It’s a place…
The desert elements truly tested our homes these past couple of months with an incredible amount of rain, wind, and even snow. While we’re always making updates, this past week we tested our own endurance by redoing the ceiling in the tent room in just a few days. Wind and rain had caused a leak, reminding us that we are just human and do not have control over everything; that our house is ultimately a home with a story. In the end, the tent room is better than ever.
We’ve been working diligently on (and living in) the Joshua Tree Hacienda, our newest project. To be quite honest, our life right now consists of dust, tripping over home depot bags while cooking dinner, and working on cleaning up one corner at a time so we have a place to sit and keep (some of) our sanity. It’s a whole different beast renovating while living full-time in the project, but we’re starting to see progress which gives us hope. Ultimately, we know it will be worth it.
