After months of living around the heat, the edges of the day are beginning to soften. Mornings stretch a little longer. Windows open again. We find ourselves outside without planning to be. It feels fitting that our fall New Moon Playlist comes from Sean Hayes, whose music has a way of holding two things at…
The spring new moon arrives with a fresh cycle of songs and a featured artist we’ve been quietly following for years. Angelo De Augustine opens and closes this playlist—his new album Angel in Plainclothes drops April 24th on Asthmatic Kitty, and “Mirror Mirror” is the kind of song that stops you mid-sentence. After collapsing on…
We held our first week long Artist Residency this summer and had the honor of meeting Devin Tuel & Stephen Harms. Two of our artists in residence! It’s our pleasure to announce they’re the curators for this New Moon playlist which also features music from their latest album Divided Kind. The 7th track on the…
We have a fun story to share today: Last summer we had a few close friends over for a swim in our pool in Joshua Tree and the Desert Friends band resulted when Antrom Alexander and Lucas Penner met and connected over their love of the guitar. It was a serendipitous day spent under the…
After a long, lingering summer, fall has finally arrived here in the Sonoran Desert, bringing cooler days and a fresh sense of inspiration. After a beautifully rainy winter both in the Sonoran and Mojave deserts, spring has arrived with both a burst of wildflowers and creative energy. Brittle bush, poppies, lupine, globe mallows and fairy dusters dot the side of the road inviting us to revisit our favorite hikes now that the weather has warmed back up. To…
As the days shorten and nights grow chillier, we’re entering the desert’s version of cozy season. This year we are embracing the familiarity of revisiting our old favorite trails and restaurants, but also seeing them in new ways since we now have our toddler daughter along with us. This sweet combination of the fresh and…
The bone soaking heat of summer has arrived along with the ripening of cactus fruit and the most vibrant sunsets of the year. Summer days are a little slower (and a little sleepier). We’ve found the spaciousness of Ocie Elliott‘s music to be the perfect soundtrack these days. This season’s playlist is a particularly special…
Heavy rains have been falling here in the desert since the beginning of the year, with the cold weather beginning to yield to the blooms of spring. We’re looking forward to the landscape waking back up and new life blanketing the valleys and hills around us. We’ve been listening to Valerie June a lot recently,…
