The Joshua Tree House – Progress!

Now that we’ve owned the Joshua Tree House for almost three months, it seems like it’s time for an update on our design progress! Whenever we head down to the house, all of our time is so consumed between client work and house projects that we haven’t really taken the time to sit down and look at how far we’ve come.

Things are still very much a mess, but we’re starting to see our vision coming to life! The living room is coming together especially well now that we have our couch, rug, and hanging chairs hung up. (That’s Rich in both photos above by the way – in the first he is painting, and then in the second photo he’s hanging our awesome cow skull that we bought at a local vintage shop.)

As far as design goes, we’ve really been letting the house dictate the style. It had so much character to begin with – the incredible wood beamed ceiling, the sections of tile work both inside and out, and those perfectly beat up concrete floors. Our colors have become primarily red, peach, white, and brown with antiqued brass finishes. I love seeing the peach color throughout the house – it reminds me of the sand that’s just outside.

If I had to describe it, the style of the house is  Mid Century and Spanish style with a  Southwest twist.

Rich and I really love mid-century design, so we’ve been bringing some of that aesthetic to the house, but with a raw desert twist.

When we got the house, it already had some Spanish tiling from the previous owner both inside and out. I love the section of tile that we now have behind the bed – it almost acts as a second layer to the headboard!

We haven’t done much with the exterior of the house yet, besides for a fresh coat of paint and a bench for the front porch! We like to dream about all of the incredible cacti we could plant out here, but it’s something that is going to have to wait.

In the meantime, I still love taking walks through the yard – especially at sunset!!
